Web1953 was a watershed year for broadcast television in eastern Iowa. The first station, KGAN in Cedar Rapids, began broadcasting on September 30, 1953. KCRI (later KCRG), also in Cedar Rapids, followed on October 15, 1953. And, as noted above, KWWL in Waterloo, began its broadcasts on November 29, 1953.
